Last night's violence in Epping is the desperate cry of people who have been ignored for decades, says David Shipley. Violence must be condemned. But if the state doesn?t change course, and fast, we will see many Eppings.

From vaccine passports in 2021 to 'Britcard' digital ID in 2025, it's becoming clear we need a Digital Bill of Rights to protect us from being brought under the technocratic grip of a surveillance state, says Alan Miller.

Why is the modern world so unremittingly ugly, wonders Joanna Gray. As yet another interchangeable block of beige bricks springs up in town, the contrast with the glories of the structures our ancestors built is damning.

This was the week that the climate consensus died in Parliament, says Ben Pile. In the debate that followed Ed Miliband's statement on "nature and climate" something new was heard in the House of Commons: dissent.

Sponsored Christmas Swim

category national | miscellaneous | event notice author Tuesday December 18, 2007 15:18author by Cian Prendiville - Socialist Pary & Socialist Youthauthor email comradecianp at gmail dot comauthor phone 086-8064801 Report this post to the editors

In Aid of the Socialist Party & Socialist Youth

On Saturday January 5th I, Cian Prendiville, will be going for a sponsored swim in the icy-fresh waters of Malahide beach, Dublin. Money raised goes to the Socialist Party and Socialist Youth campaign fund.

Through-out Ireland, the SP and SY consistently campaign against low pay, health cuts, privatisation, environmental destruction and war. We fight for a society where people come before profit.

Sponsors get emailed photographic proof of my swim. Audience welcome!

To sponsor me go to: www.sponsorformsonline.co.uk/cian.asp

A sponsorship card is attatched so you can print one off and ask others (friends, family, coworkers etc) to sponsor me too. Money does not have to be paid upfront, but it is welcome. On the website above, enter the amount in Euro, ignore the £ sign. Money is not transfered electronically, I will contact you later, personally, to arrange that.

Thanks, and have a Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year,
Cian P

Howdy all!

Just to let ye know Cian successfully did the swim earlier today, and I was a witness to it. I took some pics of the event, but sadly my USB lead for my Digital camera is broke, so have to buy a new one before uploading the photo's. hope to be able to do that ASAP. It was a day that was cold beyond belief, and I wasn't sure if Cian was Brave or just plain mad to do what he did!!

Anyways according to the man himself, he raised €440 in the process, so many thanks to one and all who supported him, and get your money in ASAP!
