Cllrs Richard Boyd Barrett and Hugh Lewis of the People Before Profit Alliance (PBPA) have submitted over 80 motions (see attached) to radically amend the new Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown draft County Development Plan 2010-2016 for a seies of special Council meetings on the plan that commence today (Nov 4th) at 5pm in County Hall and will continue through November. read full story / add a comment

Ireland’s youngest Councillors Johnny McGibbon and Charlene O’Hara, the youngest MLA Daithí McKay and Ógra Shinn Féin National Organiser Barry McColgan gathered at the Felons Club in Belfast today to promote the republican youth movement’s upcoming National Congress being held in the city in less than 2 weeks from the 13 – 15 November. The national youth event will see over 100 delegates converge in Belfast, to discuss, and debate the most pressing political issues affecting Irish youth, and plan the upcoming year for Ireland’s fastest growing, most active youth wing. The republican youth movement will also be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Na Fianna Éireann, and remembering the young Fians who died in Ireland’s freedom struggle by hosting a special dinner dance in the Holiday Inn on Ormeau Avenue in Belfast on Saturday 14th November. Using such a wide range of mediums – Kube and Omin hope to visually demonstrate the essence of Graffiti art through their own styles and skills. From sketches used on past murals, to photographs of walls, to graffiti art on canvas – all facets of the artform will be displayed and will give a visual narrative to their 13 years of non-stop graffiti art exploits. Kildare Republican Sinn Féin will be supporting the protest for the Green Isle workers being held in Naas on Saturday (October 31). In a statement Kildare based Vice President Des Dalton said that a war was being waged on working people throughout Ireland. read full story / add a comment

The news that 26-County Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has ordered the Financial Regulator to carry out a review of the Credit Union sector should be a cause for concern. Today, Wednesday 21st October at 1pm, Shell to Sea stopped illegal work at Glengad, Co Mayo, when a campaigner climbed on the arm of a Volvo digger. Shell were preparing to drill bore holes in a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), and the action was to stop this work from going ahead.
