On the 04/09/07 there was a press release detailing a possible mis-diagnosis problem in relation to the mammogram service at Portlaoise Hospital, the press release said that there were possibly 5,000 women effected and there was no press release from Mary Harney's Department. The
Hospital board and the HSE managed the timed release of materials including the fact that
many of the patients had been on the Treatment Purchase Fund Scheme. This info emanated
in the direct aftermath of Ms Harney's travelling to Barrington's Hospital in Cork where up to
1,000 women were similarly effected. Today there is a press release from DOHC which is
written in response to emergent details of 8 women with a diagnosis of cancer who had

GMB have had the best response ever to their ballot on the classroom assistants dispute. This may seem to be a possitive thing. However some important questions need to be answered and if anyone from the GMB read this I would love to hear their replies. 1) How many classroom assistants do you represent? 2) Why were ballot papers sent to cleaners, and caretakers? read full story / add a comment

With Iraq in ruins and the oil resources secured, the neo-cons that run the west have now turned their malign attention to Iran. All media is now saturated with propaganda putting Iran in the role of aggressor and a threat to world peace.Others day and daily place stories in the media portraying the internal position as one of oppression and brutality in which the Iranian people are supposedly yearning to be liberated by the west. Nothing could be further from the truth. Iranians want noting to do with western style "democracy" Medialens has collated a number of examples of how the media is being manipulated by the neo-cons as they whip up support for an attack on Iran We should take great care of what and who we give credance to in this very dangerous game in which Iran and it's perople are targeted and placed in deadly danger. read full story / add a comment

On 1 October 2007, the Weston Gardens Residents' Association, of which I am Cathaoirleach, sent a letter by registered post to Brendan Kenny (CEO Limerick Regeneration Agencies). When Mr. Kenny did not respond after 3 weeks, we decided to go public. On 24 October 2007, we bought a full page in the Limerick Leader and published a shortened version . I cam across this tale whilst having coffee in leafy D4, in the Baggot Street area and this tied in with something that I had heard a few weeks ago in that Palace of Epicurian Delights the Embassy Grill in Ballsbridge. An member of the WSM and the Turkish anarchist organization AKI look at the crisis in Turkey, a crisis pushed further into the spotlight since this article was written by the threats to invade Iraqi Kurdistan. Turkish politics are full of contradictions and paradoxical situations. The latest Irish Times online Head2Head poll concerned itself with the Corrib gas controversy in North Mayo, and asked the following question: Is Shell's Corrib Gas project good for the local community? The result came in as a resounding NO, with 84% believing the project as proposed is bad for the local community, with less than 1 in 6 agreeing it was good for the area. read full story / add a comment

The recent untimely death of Susie Long was widely covered in the media in the South. Susie made a powerful impression in January of this year when she spoke on RTE radio of how she had developed terminal cancer of the colon. It was a tragic and shocking story. Although I welcome this long awaited initiative by the Road safety Authority in attempting to reduce the carnage we see on our road each year,I cannot help but wonder at the thinking that went into calling an immediate halt to the driving by drivers holding a provisional driving licence while unaccompanied. read full story / add a comment

I signed up to BT broadband over two months ago. Not only did the hook up the wrong house, but they billed me for it, insisted nothing wrong happened, and are dawdling over my What's worse, their call centre takes ages to do anything, not surprising, given that one of their agents admitted to me that there were only 10 people working there the day I spoke to her, when the staffing level is supposed to be 60. Anyhow, sick of waiting for the always promised call back, I went hunting for the bigger fish. read full story / add a comment

Ireland granted residency to about 17,000 parents of Irish born Children mostly women and then decided that these category of Irish Citizen Children do not have any entitlement to family unification and so we have a situation where the fathers of these children are being turned away. What we risk creating for our future generation is what I dread because this policy if not reversed will only polarise the community and we will have the "us" and "them" divide. read full story / add a comment

The leaders are in Lisbon putting little finishing touches to a Treaty to replace Nice II which the Dutch and French "Scuppered', the last round of negotiations had seen the Polish and the British Objecting to aspects of the Treaty, Blair was Brown's man in Europe and was sent back to re-negotiatate. The 'Lisbon Treaty 'agreed by the EU members seeks to create a new Foreign Policy head and reduce the cumbersome issue of the rotating presidency, interestingly according to AFP Tony Blair has been one of the names for mooted a more 'permanent presidential position'. That being a diplomatic role, he would have to leave off those dinner parties he attends and those remarks he has made about Islamo-Facsim. read full story / add a comment

It’s a little darker under the trees than the last time I was here and the colors of Autumn have started there march through the leaves at Rath Lugh. This hill here was never put on an ordnance survey map and the name has shifted and been shifted until it now means only a small monument which may soon disappear. It can be seen from everywhere in the valley, it has been here throughout all of Tara’s history yet details about it are sketchy and it appears only briefly in ancients writings. One of the monuments on its roof has been temporary preserved but which one is unsure. This is after years of planning a road around it, destroying a part of it and then trying to protect it. Due to the advance of the M3 everything in the valley has been documented, mapped and numbered except this hill and now its woods, monuments, graves and spring are snared and encircled by a speculator driven, badly planned and unwanted road. read full story / add a comment |
