The fact that the assailant has a mental health history weakens the impact of the assault. If it had been a redundant worker throwing his shoes Iraqi-journalist style it would have been imaginative and more awareness raising in its media impact. Berlusconi is a rich, arrogant and rakish power buffoon whose public persona needs to be deflated.
