press release
Thursday November 20, 2008 12:39 by Moray Bresnihan - mutantspace.ie admin at mutantspace dot ie

a free resource that suopports independent arts project
Mutant space is an arts resource that supports the development and production of independent arts projects. A DIY, one–stop shop for people who want support to produce work outside the narrow confines of mainstream culture and the economic structures it works within. The site has a scrap store, skills bank, bookshop, information network, forum and e-zine
Mutantspace.ie is a newly established online arts co-operative, based in Cork, Ireland, that freely resources the development and production of independent arts projects. A DIY, one–stop shop for people who want support to produce work outside the narrow confines of mainstream culture and the economic structures it works within.
We now live in recessionary times and when there is a lack of finance we need to think differently. We have to re-examine our mode of working, our models of production. With Mutantspace.ie we’re doing that. So how do we work? Well, as with all co-operatives, Mutantspace.ie works by individuals collectively pooling resources for their mutual benefit. These resources are then available to the entire membership so that everyone can create and produce new work, no matter who they are, where they are, what they do or when they do it
As well as managing the websites resources we also publish a monthly e-zine, “The Mutation”, an irregular, alternative, DIY cultural magazine made up of an eclectic mix of articles, essays, reviews, profiles, tips and picks as well as audio and visual work, help members promote their own events, encourage and develop new working relationships with members across the country and are always looking to improve our existing tools and resources.
We want independent arts projects to flourish without being compromised and Mutantspace.ie is how we’re going to do it
Mutantspace.ie is all about affirmative action. We believe that through mutual co-operation and self interest we can successfully build a new creative space. An artistic economy that can offer a practical working alternative to the existing status quo that dominates our cultural landscape
