Peter Lynch was the grandfather who killed himself after being jailed for being rude to a police officer in the Southport riots. Why, asks Laura Perrins, was he convicted in 18 days but Bob Vylan hasn't yet been charged?

Gas is ? or should be ? dirt cheap because it's abundant and easy to extract, store and transport. Only politicians infected with the neo-Malthusian green mind virus make energy expensive, says Ben Pile.

105,000,000 euros in Government grants to Greyhound Racing since 2001

category national | animal rights | press release author Tuesday August 12, 2008 15:09author by Bernie Wright - Greyhound Action Irelandauthor email berniew at esatclear dot ieauthor phone 087 2651720. Report this post to the editors

Bord na gCon get 105,000,000 euros from Irish Government , what about the needy?

Many areas have to be tackled in our efforts to end Greyhound racing in Ireland. However none more vital than stopping the annual sports capital grants from the Irish government. These have amounted to 105,000,000 euro since 2001.As we are in a recession now surely Hospitals or the elderly would be more deserving causes.

Contacting and appealing to Bord na gCon to stop the slaughter and suffering of Greyhounds that is inherent in racing is like asking the butcher to become vegan, maybe harder.

If these SPORTS CAPITAL grants were withdrawn it would certainly go a long way towards making this ugly pastime less financially viable. Especially as on 31st JULY 2008 the Irish Government TAX EXEMPTION for both the HORSE and GREYHOUND BREEDERS will be removed, so these breeders will be tax liable (like everyone else).

Of course, let us not forget that the P.E. Equipment Grant for Primary Schools was "suspended" in 2002.

The government are not willing to fund sports equipment for schools (let McDonald's do that - see link), but are willing to pump 105 million euro into greyhound racing.

I shouldn't imagine anyone would be surprised at this sort of behaviour from government by now. The poor have no power.
