Liber8 FM - New community radio station

category dublin | arts and media | press release author Wednesday August 03, 2005 23:34author by Seoidin Report this post to the editors

Liber8 FM, a new community radio station for the Liberties and Dublin 8 will start broadcasting at weekends during the month of August.

Liberate FM A New Community Radio Station for Dublin: Liber8 FM

This Friday 5th August will see the launch of a new commnity radio station for the Dublin 8 area.

We have received a 30 day license and will initially be brodcasting for 4 weeks during the month of August. It will be aired on Fridays and Saturdays from 8am till midnight.

People from the local community have spent the last 8 weeks learning how to record and edit sound and to put radio programmes together. So tune in and hear the programmes that we have created. Call in to get your own views aired. You will hear conversations on the history of the area, art, music, youth, health and political views. It would be great to get as much support as possible to ensure that Liber8 FM will become a permanent fixture.

So tune in to 107.3 FM every Friday and Saturday evening this month and keep an eye on the Indymedia events section for upcoming schedules.

I've lived in Rialto since 1995 and have, for a long time, imagined what you're actually doing.

I can't wait to hear...

Fantastic!!!

I live at the far end of D.7, and am not in line of view of the transmitter (if it is from the top of the digital hub?).

Do you know how strong the transmitter is? Or, is there any of it being broadcast via the internet?

I live near the bottom of the Malahide Road and do pick up N.E.A.R., but the signal could be better (distance = approx 3 or 4 miles). Hopefully the transmitter at this new station may be a bit stronger.

I spent the weekend in D4 mostly and couldn't pick it up.

I think community radio will have to have a web presence as well as terrestrial broadcasts. We should get a collective server to archive the talk-based programmes and liberate the voice of the voiceless so that the world can hear.

If we also make it open publishing, I think, at least some in indymedia would be interested in helping with site maintenence.

At the moment, radio.indymedia.org can hold what we need, but it would be better, I think, if we had our own platform linked to indymedia.

Also, each station could have podcasts on its website, replaced weekly...

Craol was to be responsible for archiving, but but its lack of progress can be seen at www.craol.ie.

Community radio should be more than a tokenistic gesture. It should be a real alternative model to the mass-media. We're not professional...we're much better than that.

I also live in dublin 8, and great to hear of another community station coming on-air. you might consider some cooperation with West dublin in Ballyfermot as you'll probably overlap in some areas and Eugene and Rosaleen are very helpful.
