The second European Social Forum (ESF) is taking place in Paris this week. Last year it took place in Italy and it was from the peoples assembly at that ESF that the decision was taken to organise the February 15th International day of mobilisations against the War on Iraq. Hundreds of thousands of trade unionists, socialists, anti-capitalists, NGOs, peace activists, community groups and concerned citizens are meeting in Paris to discuss opposition to neo-liberalism, privatisation, war, environmental destruction and racism. GLOBALISE RESISTANCE SEEKS SUPPORT AT EUROPEAN SOCIAL FORUM FOR MOBILISATIONS AGAINST EU MEETINGS IN IRELAND

There will also be a huge demonstration in Paris on Saturday for a Europe of social rights and without war.
There are almost a hundred Irish attending the Forum including members of Globalise Resistance, the Debt and Development Coalition, Irish Anti-War movement, Green Party, Sinn Fein, Socialist Workers Party, students and individuals.
Rory Hearne, Globalise Resistance activists said “Globalise Resistance activists will be seeking support from European activist networks for the mobilisations that we will be helping to organise against the high-level meetings of EU that will be held in Ireland. Particularly we are looking for the day of the launch of the new expanded EU in May in Dublin to be an international day of mobilisations. We oppose the EU that promotes privatisation, profit and war ahead of peoples social rights, pubic services, democracy and peace. We will also mobilise in Ireland around whatever calls for international mobilisations that come out from the people’s assembly on Sunday”
Globalise Resistance is organising an eye-witness report back meeting from Paris on Wednesday 19th at 7.30pm in the Teachers Club, Parnell Sq with Richard Boyd Barrett (IAWM) and Jean Sommers (Debt and Development) speaking. We will be discussing the outcomes of Paris and the mobilisations against EU meetings.
