Why is Modernity so Ugly? Fri Jul 18, 2025 11:00 | Joanna Gray Why is the modern world so unremittingly ugly, wonders Joanna Gray. As yet another interchangeable block of beige bricks springs up in town, the contrast with the glories of the structures our ancestors built is damning.

Occupied Six Counties ‘Tourist Board Campaign’
Or as the brits say
‘Northern Ireland Tourist Board Campaign’
Yes, it’s April 2nd 2014 so no catch.
Republican Sinn Féin Poblachtach - Cork note the following:
With the summer approaching the opportunity to view the occupied part of Ireland is again been promoted by provisional Sinn Féin and supported by the brit funded ‘Northern Ireland Tourist Board’.
Wait for this it’s called, “Discover Northern Ireland” campaign.
Slogans such as “it’s only a few miles up the road” are uttered in a campaign that portrays the Occupied area of Ireland as being a separate country.
{Yes, it’s beautiful. It is Ireland (an Island and Country that has inspired Revolutionaries, Poets, and Statesmen etc.)}
It does not mention it’s an artificially partitioned area carved out by an illegal occupation.
It is efforts like these that try to continue and normalise foreign occupation of our country.
Another attempt to normalise partition through marketing and putting through that WE as a SOVERIGN NATIONAL PEOPLE are not resisting.
This idea that the occupation of the north of Ireland makes it’s a separate country, a separate entity, is UNTRUE
Republicans resist these attempts.
We are barraged by the media from the occupaying power (England) and the two illegal statelets on OUR Island ‘IRELAND’.
The English occupation of Ireland, in all its manifestations was never normal. It normal will never be normal.
Just speak to visitors on our shores from countries all across the globe.
They will tell you of the tours they pay vast sums of money for, the trips around Derry, Belfast etc., to take photos of murals and told stories of “The Troubles”, since passed or so they are led to believe.
However no highlight of the root cause of the conflict is ever mentioned and revisionist theories of the peace process are instead sold to the 3 million plus visitors a year.
Ireland’s past means more than using it to prostitute the occupied areas history to bolster a tourist boards coffers. It is a history, which we know and others should learn from, so as not to repeat the same cycle again.
Depressingly however this is not happening and the same conditions remain in place. This is the reality not told to the visitors who come, they are filled with Guinness and the notion “the bad old days” have been and gone.
However history tells us whilst the idea of Occupation of Ireland remains and is forced upon us this is not the case.
We do not seek to Discover our country, we want it free once and for all.

Mise Éire:

Mór mo ghlóir:
Mé a rug Cú Chulainn cróga.
Mór mo náir:
Mo chlann féin a dhíol a máthair.
Mór mo phian:
Bithnaimhde do mo shíorchiapadh.
Mór mo bhrón:
D’éag an dream inar chuireas dóchas.
Mise Éire:
Uaigní mé ná an Chailleach* Bhéarra.
* an Chailleach is an old woman meaning a ‘witch’
I am Ireland
I am Ireland: I am older than the old woman* of Beare.
Great my glory:
I who bore Cuchulainn, the brave.
Great my shame:
My own children who sold their mother.
Great my pain:
My irreconcilable enemy who harasses me continually…
Great my sorrow
: That crowd, in whom I placed my trust, died.
I am Ireland:
I am lonelier than the old woman of Beare.
* old woman meaning a ‘witch’
